to have been told about it. > back in february, jonathan duffy raped a woman at knife point in the garage. days later, they found him at the same metro stop with a 13- year-old girl. he has been charged with raping the woman and statutory rape of the teenager. the metro board chairman says the public wasn't notified because metro got too busy with the snowstorms. >> it shouldn't have happened in the first place and i'm really not in charge of the individual staff members. that's something that the general manager and the people in that office do. but i have no reason to believe that this kind of mistake would be made again. >> i'm audrey barnes in northeast. the teenager who police say was behind the get away vehicle, the night of the shootings on south capital street, it's now in protective custody here at dc youth and rehabilitation services. a corrections officer said the teen told him he was duked into giving his brother a ride and

that he didn't shoot anyone. the brother is now in custody charged with first-degree murder. another brother, sam carter is behind bars facing charges for the march 22 murder of jordan howell. detectives went to the u.s. attorney to try to get orlando carter arrested for that crime, too, but they wouldn't take the case to the judge. >> i would suspect that if the police department can present a case, with as much information as they did in this one that the next time this happens, an arrest warrant would be issued. >> ron issued a statement saying we can only approve arrest warrants when sufficient proximate cause has been established. some believe the mass shootings were in retaliation for hal's murder and other crimes that happen after it. >> i'm lindsey in northwest washington. here at the cathedral of st. matthew where the church is responding to the global issue of sexual abuse. >> the group voices of

faithful gather in the cathedral, with jim moran included, he says he was sexually abused while in the seminary. >> those that have the ability to be abusers found a safe haven in the church. >> moran says the buck stops with the pope. >> i would like to see him step down if p possible. >> what i wanted was validation. >> she says her family priest sexually abused her when she was eight years old. archbishop walked out of st. matthews and joined the group in prayer. it's a good will gesture, but victims want more. >> i just hope that the gestures are followed up by actions. right now, police are negotiating with a man who has a gun and barricaded him. authorities showed up to a victim earlier today. they heard gunfire and that's what led to the standoff that lasted all day now. as for the residents, police

travelers will have to go through extra security screening to get into this country. screeners are checking names against a no fly list and a second list provided by american intelligence agencies. so now, travelers will not be stopped unless they match a list of characteristics on that list. >> a controversial american university newspaper column about date rape is getting some national attention. earlier this week, a columnist wrote that some women who drink large amounts of alcohol and go to a male student's room are indicating that they want to have sex, so they shouldn't cry date rape later. well, today he and a vocal opponent appeared on the cbs morning show. he agrees, no means no, but his concern is what could happen the day after. >> she can wake up the next morning regretting drunken sex and accuse the man of being a rapist, because there are so many men out there whose lives have been devastated by false

claims of rape. >> well alex has since lost his job at the newspaper and the paper has apologized for publishing his column, which brings us to tonight's mail bag question. have you actually gone and read it? we created a link to that article on wusa9.com. check it out, tell me what you think about it. the address is mailbag@wusa9.com. sky 9 over the scene of a deadly crash in wheaten today. it happened at the dunken donuts parking lot. police tell 9news now a car struck a woman and killed her. the name of that victim is not yet been released. the driver of the car did stay at the scene. and sky 9 also over this crash in gaithersburg this morning. police say 24-year-old antwan stole that blue mustang and led them on a chase. the pursuit ended when the car crashed into a ride on bus. no bus passengers were hurt, however, the bus driver and the

driver of the pickup suffered minor injuries. perry is in police custody. >> you might want to call it good friday gridlock. patranya is in the 9news now traffic center. >> we are hoping for friday light, but no such luck. it's been a narely day out there on the roadways and continues to be so here on 95 going southbound. drivers trying to push two from dale city over to triangle. about a half hour, no incidents or accidents to report there. that is the good news. on the capital beltway, the heaviest spot we are seeing is north of the district. 20 minutes will get you from 270 to i-95. not seeing any incidents here either. that's looking good. switching on to the dulles toll road where we'll be flying over that accident we had, it shut down all lanes for a couple hours this afternoon. that has cleared right now, looking good all the way to the airport. and finally, we are going to wrap it up in downtown dc. a lot of food traffic here. a beautiful night out there to be out in dc. lots of events going on,

including the cherry blossom festival. definitely brace yourself for traffic. take metro, but beware the trains are going to be packed. derek, back to you. >> thanks. it is so nice out there, what is a little traffic, right devon? >> not bad at all. if we have to deal with that, that's the least of our concerns weather wise, because it's beautiful out here. temperatures, 70s and national today, 77. 68 is what we have fallen to and there's mid to upper 70s in many parts of northern virginia. here's how we lack across the board. we are cooler if you go towards the potomac. the chesapeake, and over as you head into the atlantic. south, southeast winds kept temperatures clear, but out to the west, temperatures really, really mild. this is this evening's forecast. clear and mild temperatures, back down into the 60s over the next couple of hours. at sunset, 23 minutes away from now, we have your complete forecast. that sparks some severe thunderstorms over the plain states today. that's going to be moving here

it was a pretty tough fight, but fire crews have contained a thousand acre wild fire. dozens of families were forced out of their homes and they were allowed to go back a short while ago. firefighters from the forest service used helicopters and bulldozers to contain the blaze. nobody was hurt. >> a fourth person just died after this morning's fire at a refinery north of seattle. three other corporation plant employees are hospitalized in critical condition. residents living five miles away felt the midnight blast. investigators still don't know

what sparked it. >> environmentalists call it a major victory, miners in west virginia say they'll lose jobs. the epa put out a water quality standard related to mountain top mining. it's a number for the level of toxins measured in the water. miners say it will make it nearly impossible for them to do their job. >> it's going to be hard for any kind of big economic enterprise to meet the standard, which will protect the streams throughout the country, but especially in areas that are affected by mountain top removal mining. >> mountain top removal mining is estimated to destroyed land the size of the state of delaware. many experts believe it's effect contaminate all the waterways in our country. coming up, we'll take you to good friday observances. plus, devon is back. he'll have your full forecast. keep it right here. welcome to the world of lovaza, where nature meets science.

the family of a nine-year- old boy killed by a disney world bus is speaking out tonight. chase's family says the boy was riding his bike to an arcade when he was killed yesterday. the child crossed into the road and crashed into the side of the bus, but his mother says he was extra cautious because of the traffic. >> if a car even came down the road, he would run to the side of the grass and stop the fight. >> an 11-year-old friend riding nearby says chase's bike never left the sidewalk. florida highway patrol are investigating. so far, the bus driver has not been charged. and christians around the world are observing good friday. pope benedict xvi is leading services in vatican city. the service was followed by the way of the cross procession, the traditional procession is a

reenactment of what jesus' final hours and crucifixion. and thousands of pilgrims crowded around for the traditional procession. the first station is where jesus was believed to be condemned to death. the last is the tomb where many christians believe he was morallied. a special good friday mass was held in bethlehem where christians believe christ was born. today's peak blooms is expected to last through the weekend and kristen fisher has more from that. >> to pick or not to pick, that is the question for many visitors to washington's cherry blossom festival. >> was there any cherry blossom picking going on today? >> may be a little. >> i really wanted to pick them, but my mom read a book and said you aren't allowed to pick them. >> i pulled the branch down to look at it and my mother-in-law is like, don't do that, you aren't supposed to touch them.

>> most people know you aren't supposed to pick the cherry blossoms, but it's illegal. >> oh my goodness. >> under title 36 of the code of federal regulation, if you are damaging trees, willingfully and maliciously, you can be placed under arrest and if you are from out of town, you might have your vacation extended in the district of columbia. >> did you know it's illegal to pick cherry blossoms? >> always abide by the cherry blossom law. >> maybe not all the laws, but they typically let these first time offenders off easy. >> we want to make sure that people understand that our goal is not to arrest people for this, but to educate them. these cherry trees are a beautiful, natural and cultural resource in the washington, d.c. area and we want to make sure that everyone wants to take a look at them has that opportunity. >> what's your favorite part about them? >> getting to smell them. >> really? what do they smell like? >> a loft wonderful things. >> are you going to pick any cherry blossoms?

>> no way. >> in washington, kristen fisher. >> that's right, stay out of jail. if you want to take pictures, there are some things to consider when you want to snap the perfect photo. a photographer says it takes more than just proper framing, lighting, and composition. >> just making sure that's what is in the view finder, or in the screen is interesting and not boring. >> okay. and if you still can't get it right, vendors are selling professional photographs of the title basin. all the postcards. >> and this is the weekend where you want to take some shots to the sunny and perfect cherry blossoms are all over the place. >> it's unbelievable. >> 10 to 15 degrees above average. go right through the weekend. we have a weak front that is coming in and might add clouds into the picture. that's just about it. it has been bright, sunny skies without any clouds. just a few thin clouds here and there. the next three for us will stay

temperatures of mid to upper 70s for national. for those of us that got to 80 today, take that into tomorrow. a lot of us hit 80 degrees today and further off to the west as we'll see. cooler off to the east, because of the bay, because of the atlantic. this front coming in is going to add a few clouds. i don't think any rain at all, not even a sprinkle. 76, a couple degrees cooler with the clouds there and up to 78 degrees. overnight tonight, look where we will end up temperature wise. low temperatures should be at 42. averages this time of the year and that's for national. i think we are going to be to 55 tomorrow morning. those of us that are warmer in the overnight hours, we could be close to 60 as soon as early to mid-morning as we get the sunshine to come back up. those throughout the 40s and most of us will jump through the 50s up to the 70s and close to 80 tomorrow afternoon and there's a few clouds moving back in along that front that we showed you. a closer look at it in just a minute. 68 right now in washington.

we have 70s montgomery county. 68 in gaithersburg. loudoun county, a lot of 70- degree temperatures there. the further east we go, we are watching in high definition. annapolis is at 61 hugging the bay. still only around 50 degrees. that's why we have the cooler temperatures off east. 68 here washington, even warmer off to the west. cumberland nearly lower 80s today. in fact, 86, it was mid 80s out there. sunshine will give way to this front coming through. highest elevations, appalachians could see a sprinkle, shower coming in. very early in the morning hours here on sunday. so even for those that are going to get rain, it's all recovering to sunshine. now for us here in washington, this front starts to near, it's going to die out and fade right away. we didn't see anything in the way of a shower and that's in line with our forecast. i made that forecast to show you we didn't see that rain moving in and more sunshine recovering back in the midday along that front.

here's a look at the low temperatures where you are around dc and just outside of the beltway. 55 downtown. 56 college park. we have some upper 40s as we head into the east. head into northern virginia, some mid 40s there and if you hit 80 today, you may hit 81, 82 tomorrow. we are going to go 77 with a light southeast breeze coming off the potomac and once again, going further off to the east, you might muster 60s if you are on the eastern shore or off the bay. zone forecast, i'm going to go 86 again for cumberland. you are looking at oakland, it's 80 degrees out there for your forecast tomorrow. one or two clouds here, off to the eastern shore, we have 70s east, but dover, georgetown, 64- 69 and 69 respectively. seven-day forecast, things looking great through the next week. at least the next five days. once you get to thursday, the next storm system gets widespread showers. a fast enough moving one that

chip, the garage door grease stained jesus. we bring you the marble bathtub virgin mary. in new mexico, a woman says when she got in her bathtub, she couldn't believe her eyes. it was an imman of the virgin mary looking down at baby jesus. now she says she has been in that house for years, but decided to use her tub for the first time. we will hope she had a shower. that's when she noticed the holy image. i however do wonder why we in the media can't stop talking about it. there it is. that's the holy mother, maybe it is, i don't know. >> see them every week. what do you have for us for the weekend? >> beautiful weather, temperatures right back up into where we were today. at least for national. maybe a degree warmer at 78 and 76 back down with a few more clouds coming back in. a weak front that fades away. leaving us still in the mid to upper 70s, and 80-degree
